February 20th, 2025 II

GoodMorning! Thursday February 20, 2025, marks the 30th day of this 60day session and it is beginning to get interesting.

Yesterday on the house floor we debated three bills on the house floor yesterday. I have shared a synopysis below and added information on other bills that will impact our life here in New Mexico if chaptered into law.

I pray a blessed dayfor all.

Floor Action

HB 193 – Study Public Education System - PASSED

Randy’s Vote: No

HB 10/cs: RLD Cannabis Enforcement Act - PASSED

Randy’s Vote: NO

SB 3/cs/a – Behavioral Health Reform & Investment Act - PASSED

Randy’s Vote: NO

BILLS IN MOTION

SB 36 – Sensitive Personal Information Disclosure

What Randy is Tracking:

A bill that bars state agencies, such as the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD), from sharing data with federal law enforcement regarding illegal immigrants, potentially shielding gang and cartel members from deportation.

SB 250 – State Enforcement of Immigration Law

What Randy is Tracking:

This bill aims to block any local resources from being used to enforce federal immigration laws. Those resources include state or city employees, public funding, and facilities, like jails. An “Emerge NM” bill.

HB 181 – State Trust Program Accountability Plan

What Randy is Tracking:

We heard this bill in House appropriations last night. This bill would put guardrails on non-recurring funding that the Governor removed last year.

HB 71 – Early Childhood Ed & Care Fund Transfers

What Randy is Tracking:

We heard this bill in House Appropriations last night as well. This bill seeks additional funds for an agency whose current budget is $785m and cannot meet its performance goals.
