Bills in Motion |
HB 548 Oil & Gas Equalization Act |
This legislation that would impose an 85% tax increase on oil production (over $500M tax increase) in our state. If passed, this new tax would drive energy production to neighboring states like Texas and Oklahoma, where the regulatory environment is more favorable. We'll lose the jobs but still face higher energy costs. |
SB 279 Gas-Operated Semiautomatic Firearms Exclusion Act |
This legislation will place a ban on the sale or transfer of gas operated rifles, handguns, and shotguns. The bill would also ban the sale or transfer of all magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, regardless of the firearm operation. |
SB 244 Illegal Transfer of a Firearm to a Minor Would be Racketeering |
This bill would ban minors from possessing a firearm. While there are some exemptions written into the bill, the very limited scope of when and how a firearm could be possessed by a minor could still end youth shooting sports and youth hunting in New Mexico. Additionally, the bill would make it a crime for a minor to use a firearm in self-defense or in the defense of others unless their parent or guardian was physically present next to them. |
